This shoot has more fabulous details than any other I have done. Even down the the stamps on the invitation suit matching the bouquet! The elegant lace details of the sleeves brought me LIFE, and the unique warehouse space literally filled with incredible pieces from The White House Co. gave me more unique options than we had time for. We have them to thank for the furniture, the rug, and gorgeous moss backdrop. Somehow our model just fit this look perfectly, and she brought lots of spunk, energy, and personality to the shoot. I feel sad that models often don't get a lot of credit for the hard work they do, because without them this all wouldn't be possible. Major props to Hailey who was equally creative as the rest of the team and so incredibly passionate about the results. Be sure to click on the titles to visit each vendor's sites to find out how they can uniquely serve you.
I can't over-emphasize how fabulous it is to work with a florist who is skillful in her craft as well as extremely attentive to all of your requests. We chose jungle tropicals like a large split monstera leaf (which I'm obsessed with and of course featured) and hibiscus flowers. The next important element was the African proteas of two varieties, the pincushion protea (yellow/orange) and the king protea (the large pink flower which is truly otherworldly). Everything about it was perfectly eclectic, exotic, and wild! And perfectly heart-warming. It was fun to bring regions beyond our lovely midwest to North Dakota. Callie of Olive Branch Botany also threw in my other favorites for me: ranunculus, pink tulips, and eucalyptus stocks, rather than the more typical seeded or silver dollar. It was so fun to push boundaries of what "go" and break out of the norm. If we can't explore new combinations, we aren't truly creating, and I think Olive Branch Botany understands that and makes pieces that stand out! She paired the bouquet with gorgeous velvet ribbon from Honey Silks & Co.
Or shall I say pantsuit? It was paired with removable elegant skirt and it is made of 100% silk with netting and lace for the hand-sewn detailing on the sleeves. Every time our model Hailey lifted her arms I was struck by the design. I personally am in love with the strength and confidence that wearing a pantsuit gives (also pockets-hello!!!!) and when made with the delicate and dreamy materials you get the best of both worlds. Chelsea Lovett is a designer who gives and gives to support all women, and her designs stand alone in dresses that are flattering as well as comfortable to wear. They are perfectly unique, and she is my favorite designer. A true artist. Any girl who gets to wear pants (again WITH POCKETS) as well as that dreamy fairy-tale of a skirt makes me incredibly jealous. It's a good thing I get to live vicariously through people while I photograph them. One of the things I love most about Chelsea's designs are that they are meant to fit each woman's body in a way that uplifts and empowers, and since they are tailor-made this is possible in a way a dress off the rack cannot compare to.
Veraly & Co. reached out to me wanting to participate in our tropical shoot for a custom invitation suite. For this suite, she hand-painted painted tropical leaves with gouache, and digitized them afterwards to they could be printed onto paper that is so soft that I wish you could feel. The calligraphy was all done in procreate with a custom pointed pen brush. Combined, they were ready to be digitally printed on handmade paper which gave them a more elegant touch. The beauty of her suites are that they have both the human touch of their maker, but also that no one else in the world has this collection but you.
